WHO WE ARE !!

The Gulf of Guinea Risk and Resilience Institute (GGRR Institute) is a regional applied research and policy institute dedicated to advancing hazard risk mitigation, resilience practice, policy innovation, maritime governance, organizational development, and Climate  finance for development.

We are passionate about closing the climate finance gap by designing and scaling innovative financial instruments that directly support adaptation and resilience in frontline regions. We work at the nexus of climate science, policy, and capital markets, helping governments, investors, and communities co-create financing solutions that protect people, economies, and ecosystems.

Why It Matters

The Gulf of Guinea is one of the most climate-vulnerable coastal regions in the world—yet it remains underrepresented in global finance conversations. By amplifying local priorities and piloting bankable resilience instruments, we aim to position the region as a global laboratory for innovative finance solutions.

OUR UNIQUE POSITIONING

  • Help bridge the financing gap for climate and resilience (trillions needed vs. billions available).
  • Attract private sector capital to complement limited public funds.
  • Make financing more predictable, flexible, and responsive to risks.
  • Support local ownership and sustainability by tying funds to performance or ecosystem stewardship.
  • Knowledge integration: Blend local/indigenous knowledge with scientific climate data for credible baselines and verifiable outcomes (aligns with RIfS ethos).
  • Deal origination: Translate municipal resilience plans into financeable term sheets with clear cash-flow logic and MRV.
  • Regional convening: Broker multi-country or coastal-corridor transactions where ecology and risk are transboundary.

We are always open to collaborations with DFIs, investors, philanthropies, insurers, and governments committed to building a resilient, climate-secure future.

OUR APPROACH

We combine over 20 years of experience in climate and water systems with a vision for finance as a resilience enabler. Our work integrates scientific risk data, local/indigenous knowledge, and global best practices to unlock capital that is equitable, scalable, and impact-driven.
